We provide this food free of charge to 25 local feeding ministries between Fort Lauderdale and Lake Worth. Christmas 2018, 30,000 pounds of perishable and non-perishable foods were delivered to churches with food ministries in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami- Dade and Martin Counties.
We have supplied over 68 thousand pounds of free food since January 1st, helping churches and volunteers serve more plentiful and better-quality food to the less fortunate at a tiny fraction of their previous cost. We received 6000 pounds of free food from the National Association of Letter Carriers annual food drive. This food was all distributed that same day thanks to hard work of many people. Episcopal Charities is excited by the success, the savings to volunteers and their churches of over $70,000 to date, and the team building among our churches from this pilot food bank.
This Food Bank was founded January 1, 2018 using St. Gregory’s startup grant and ministry plan. Episcopal Charities has earmarked startup grants for other parts of the Diocese willing to set up and man local sorting centers for their nearby feeding ministries. The Boca Raton area team has learned a great deal during our pilot and is willing to supply resource personnel to help other sorting centers get started.
